Piyu from WordPress made me realize that I hadn’t written about any home remedies that people could try to help treat and/or prevent hair loss. I did a little more research and this is what I found.

Hair Loss Remedies

Please keep in mind that some of these remedies may not work for you. Everybody’s hair is different and not everybody has the same kind of hair loss. You can try and find the following ingredients at GNC or any other natural herbs, vitamins, and minerals store.

Massage

Massaging the scalp in a circular motion for a couple of minutes a day can stimulate blood flow to the hair follicles and in mild cases stimulate some hair growth in minor cases of temporary hair loss. It is also said that massaging with lavender oil also helps.

There are several electric massagers on the market that have an attachment for scalp massaging. An oriental method called Qi Gong [pronounced chi-kung] has been used to increase circulation to the scalp. I’ve also heard that it’s been used for the face as well.

Nettle Root Extract

Nettles are rich in vitamins A and C, several key minerals and lipids that can be beneficial to the hair. Nettle Root Extract has been used successfully in Europe as an inhibitor of 5-alpha reductase in treating BPH. Women who are taking oral contraceptives [birth control] or who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take nettle root extract.

More information on Nettle Root, drugdigest.org
I also found a website that sells nettle extract shampoo, nutracareinc.com
Nettle root extract is also available at health food stores, such as GNC.

Rosemary and Sage

Rosemary and sage are two herbs that have shown benefit traditionally when used externally. All you have to do is boil rosemary, sage, peach leaf, nettle and burdock together in water . Then strain the loose herbs from the liquid and use the liquid to wash the hair daily.

I’ve heard that these are sold in jars at health food stores.

Jojoba Oil

If you are likely to get seborrhea, eczema, psoriasis, or dandruff, you could consider using jojoba oil. Mexicans and southwestern Native American nations have used jojoba oil traditionally for centuries to promote hair growth and the control of dandruff. Jojoba oil is great for hypoallergenic skin because it is a great moisturizer and mimics the scalp’s own *sebum.
*The semi-fluid secretion of the sebaceous glands, consisting chiefly of fat, keratin, and cellular material.

Here’s a website I found where you can buy pure jojoba oil, Mountain Rose Herb

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera has been used by Native Americans, Indians and many in the Caribbean to promote healthy hair and prevent hair loss. Aloe’s can help the scalp by healing it and balancing the pH level of the scalp while cleansing the pores. A common mix of Aloe Vera gel with a small amount of wheat germ oil and coconut milk is used as a shampoo and has traditionally shown great benefit.

You can buy aloe vera here, about.pricegrabber.com

Henna

Henna is a traditional Indian herb that acts as a natural conditioner and is said to be excellent for the maintenance of healthy hair. It can help heal the hair shaft by repairing and sealing the cuticle. By doing so it is protecting hair against breakage and loss of shine.

You can buy henna leaf powder here, fromnaturewithlove.com
A step-by-step recipe I found on ehow.com that uses henna leaf powder and other ingredients, ehow.com

Exercise

Exercise does nothing directly to grow hair, most *holistic practitioners recommend it. Exercising can improve blood flow, the delivery of oxygen to the cells of the body, and help the digestion of foods, all things that aid the health of hair follicles.
*Pertaining to the whole body; treatment of disease by taking into consideration every part of the body to bring the internal environment into balance.

I see a lot of people asking about hair loss so I figure I do a post about what I’ve researched. I hope this helps those who need answers to their questions. I know how devastating possible hair loss can be.

Hair Biology

In order to fully understand hair loss you must understand the biology of hair. There are three stages of hair growth: the Catagen phase, the Telogen phase, and the Anagen phase. You can get a better understand of these phases on this website, about.com

Most people lose about 50 to 100 hairs a day. The average head has 100,000 hairs so this shouldn’t be noticeable amount of hair loss.

Hair Loss Due To Medical Problems/Surgery

Illness and Surgery After a battle with a serious illness may also be the reason why you are experiencing excessive hair loss. The stress of the illness may cause hair loss and is only temporary. Some people may experience hair loss three to four months after having major surgery.

Hormonal Issues A underactive or overactive thyroid gland may cause hair loss. Androgens, male hormones, and estrogens, female hormones, are out of balance when you have a thyroid problem. This can be corrected by getting treatment. Once you’ve been treated then your hair loss should stop. Pregnancy and Post-Partum pregnancy [not taking any prenatal vitamins] can also be a cause.

Medicines Some medicines can cause hair loss. From what I’ve read, such medicines include blood thinners, medicines used in chemotherapy, birth control, and anti-depressants.

Diseases It is very important to see a doctor if your excessive hair loss continues because this can be an early sign of an underlying disease. Some diseases are diabetes and lupus. Make sure that you get treated as soon as possible.

Improper Hair Care

If you’re the type of person that wears their hair in cornrows, pigtails, or uses tight rollers, then you definitely need to read this section. Traction alopecia [pronounced all-oh-pee-sha] is one of many types of hair loss associated with constant pulling of the hair. Scarring of the scalp develops, but if the pulling is stopped then your hair will grow back normally. Scarring can cause permanent hair loss. Chemicals used in perms and hot oil treatments may cause swelling of hair follicles, resulting in hair loss.

Many men and women use chemical treatments on their hair, including dyes, tints, bleaches, straighteners, and permanent waves. These treatments rarely damage hair if they are done correctly. However, the hair can become weak and break if any of these chemicals are used too often. These treatments rarely damage hair if they are done correctly. However, the hair can become weak and break if any of these chemicals are used too often. If hair becomes brittle from chemical treatments, it is best to stop until the hair grows out.

Products Can Be Too Strong For Your Hair

Products that are too strong for you hair, like a gel, a mousse, or a shampoo and/or conditioner may be too strong for you hair. Try investing in a different brand and see if there’s a difference.

Male- and Female-Pattern Baldness

Yes, female-pattern baldness does exist. Hair can become thin over the entire scalp in this form of hair loss. Male-pattern baldness is the most common cause of hair loss in men. Men who have this type of hair loss usually have inherited the trait. Men who start losing their hair at an early age tend to develop more extensive baldness. Hair loss typically results in a receding hair line and baldness on the top of the head.

Please keep in mind that there may be other reasons for your hair loss. These are not all the solutions for hair loss. It is best if you see a doctor for a more professional answer or check out my other post, hair loss remedies

This was requested by erin from WordPress. I own two Conair Instant Heat curling irons so I’ll be doing a review on those.

Conair Instant Heat Curling Iron

The curling iron pictured above is the one inch barrel. I own this and the 1 1/2 inch curling iron as well. I love these curling irons.

Features

Heat settings from 1 to 25, depending on how easy your hair curls

Turbo setting to heat 36 more degrees than the set temperature

A swivel cord that rotates 360 degrees

Automatic turn-off safety feature after one hour

Safety stand that can fold up and down

I especially love these curling irons because they don’t snag on my hair. My hair doesn’t get burned, of course, I do use heat protection spray, and they don’t take a long time to heat up. Heating time is about one minute. The adjustable heat settings are great for hair that is either hard or easy to curl. Setting one is for easy to curl hair and 25 is for hard-to-curl hair. Also, instead of turning up the heat settings you can just press the turbo button and you get a little more heat added on the temperature you had set. Your hair doesn’t slip off the barrel easily.

Warranty

The curling iron comes with a two-year warranty. You’ll have to send back the broken one, along with three dollars, and you’ll get a brand new one. Then again, you can just buy another curling iron for about 15 or so dollars. It may actually be less. I believe that’s how much mine cost. It’s been so long since I got another curling iron that I don’t even remember the price. That’s how long it lasts for! I got mine at Wal-Mart and it works great!

I haven’t had any problems with my curling iron and I highly recommend you trying it out. I do a video tutorial on hair curling using the Conair Instant Heat 1 1/2 inch barrel curling iron, How To Get Soft, Bouncy Curls

Hey everyone! I finally got my technical difficulties sorted out so I’m ready to start my video tutorials again! Okay, I promised I would do a beachy, wavy kind of hairstyle. It’s really simple and perfect for people who don’t have a lot of time on their hands.

Beach Wave Look

Step One

Start off with wet hair. You want damp hair, but you don’t want it to dry up before you’re done styling. Take any mousse of your choice and start scrunching. I preferably use volumizing mousse because when it dries, I get more volume in my hair. You want about two egg-sized amounts of mousse in either side of your hair. You’re going to have four egg-sized amounts of mousse all over your hair. If you have longer hair then you may want to use more. You’ll need a lot more than you think.

Step Two

Now, the second step all depends on what look you’re trying to achieve. In my video, I had done the step so that I can get the natural looking waves. There’s also a look that you can do to make your waves wet.

The Dry Look
The dry look takes a lot less time to do. Once you’ve put all the mousse you need in your hair all you need to do is spray some hairspray. The key is to only spray as much as you need to hold your hair in place. If you don’t exactly know how much you need then I recommend using any flexible hold hairspray such as Garnier Fructis Flexible Hold Hairspray. Flexible gives you the hold that you need and the movement you desire. The best part is, you can spray as much as you want because it doesn’t dry looking wet. They’ll look more natural.

The Wet Look
The wet look takes a little more time to do. Once you’ve put all the mousse you need in your hair you’ll need to use a stronger hairspray than flexible hold spray. The key is that you’ll need to spray a lot of hairspray while your hair is still completely damp. It’s the same technique as the dry look, you’ll just be using more hairspray. Yes, your hair will be crunchy. This is the only downfall I see about this hairstyle. If you don’t know what hairspray works then I recommend trying either Garnier Fructis Frim Hold Hairspray or AquaNet. I’ve used both and they work great.

Ideas For Bangs
So yellowstars862 from YouTube asked me about ideas for bangs, which I hadn’t mentioned in my video.

You can straighten your bangs, add a little mousse and the same amount of hairspray you applied to your style.

You can pin them back however you want.

You can do what I did in my video and just brush them back so that they did their own thing.
My bangs are naturally side-swept.

So I hoped this helped. If you have any questions, comments, tips, advice, anything, then feel free to comment or email me at raechelecee@gmail.com.
Thanks for reading!

This is a review on the Dove Advanced Care Sheer Moisture Leave-In Replenishing Mist. I’ve been using this for about a year now. I personally believe it works.

I definitely would reccomend this for people that have dry hair. I used this part of my daily hair care routine for a couple months since my hair got super dry from all the straightening, hair dying, blow-drying, etc. I straighten my hair almost everyday and for a year I wasn’t using any heat protection spray! I know, I’m so bad. My hair finally got it’s softness back and I’m thankful for it. There are some downsides [cons] about this product that I’ll be talking about so keep on reading!

Pros

For starters, it works. Haha
I used this for four months straight. The softness I was trying to achieve would’ve kicked in sooner, but my best friend is my CHI straightener so it kind of stalled.

It’s a detangler!
My hair gets these nasty tangles, especially when I don’t brush it before I go to bed at night, and it’s a great way to loosen those tangles so you don’t rip any of them out as you brush.

Lightweight mist – A handy frizz control
I was pretty amazed when I realized that it was controlling my flyaways. I got the flyaways when I had my hair thinned so my hair had these choppy strands of hair. It also controls the frizz.

It doesn’t weight your hair down
I don’t know about you, but some products make my hair feel gross and disgusting. It’s kind of like a cake-y feeling. I don’t like products that don’t make my hair feel natural. With the replenishing mist, you can’t even tell that it’s on and it dries really quick, depending on how much you put.

You can put as much as you want
If you have certain spots that need extra attention, it won’t matter how much product you use. You can spray on as much as you want or need.

It can be used on wet or dry hair
This is great for times where you just want to kick back and relax at home.

It smells great!
Do I need to explain any further? Haha.

Cons

Using the replenishing mist with styled hair
I curled my hair before I had sprayed the mist and my curls ended up falling. I also straightened my hair beforehand and my hair turned out wavy in certain sections. Then again, I had sprayed a little too much. So if you’re planning to do your hair, spray before you style!

It works better on damp hair
If you want the frizz control, it works better on damp hair. My hair ended up turning more wavy and poofy than it usually was when it dries naturally.

Keep in mind that my hair is fine and thin, but I have a lot of it. These are just results that happened to my hair. Everybody’s hair is different. I hoped this helped! Thanks for reading!

All right, I finally got enough time to do another post so here it goes. Thank you for being so patient with me. I know that a week is a really long time. Anyways, today I’m going to elaborate on frizz control and what I do to tame the frizz and flyaways.

Products

As you may have noticed from reading my other blogs, my favorite hair care line for hair products is mainly Garnier Fructis. I don’t go out and buy expensive products if I don’t need to. Garnier Fructis is a great alternative, in my opinion. Although, I do use other products such as Dove, Biosilk, Big Sexy Hair, Matrix, etc. Anywho, my favorite can’t-live-without frizz control products are:

Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Weightless Anti-Frizz Serum
I actually did a review a while back on this product here, Garnier Fructis Product Review

Garnier Fructis Style Smoothing Milk
I use this as a back up for the serum

Biosilk Silk Therapy
It’s pretty much the same thing as the Garnier Fructis Serum

How To Apply

I generally like to use one product in my hair at a time, unless I need more. If you’re using a serum like Garnier Fructis or Biosilk or anything related then you’ll want to be extremely careful. Garnier Fructis and Biosilk are literally oil. These products create a slight oily and greasy look. This is why you should be careful. If you put to much, especially at the crown [top] of your hair, then your hair will look too greasy, oil, and just plain Blah!

Start working in the product from bottom to top. Yes, it sounds backwards but this ensures that you don’t apply too much product to your roots. Depending on the length of your hair, start by using a dime-sized amount of product. If you have longer hair, use dime-sized amounts but feel free to get more.

Other Tips

So I did a little research and found a few more tips that you can try to reduce frizz control. Keep in mind that everybody’s hair type is different and some of these tips may not work for you.

Wash and style your hair before you go to bed
Styling hair at night will reduce frizz because your hair has time to settle. Your pillow helps to smooth out the hairs. This may not work for people that have thin hair and what volume. Your pillow may also flatten your hair a bit. Another thing you can do is blow-dry your hair, sleep, and style it the next day.

Knowing How to Blow-Dry Properly
Point the nozzle of the hair dryer down to smooth the hair cuticle and finish by using the cool setting on the dryer to set the look. Running cold water after you shower is another method you could use before you blow-dry.

Working With The Humidity
Instead of working against the moisture, try working with it. This is for people that want to enhance their curly or wavy hair. Enhance the waves and the curls by towel-drying your hair. You can make your hair even more curly and more wavy.

Using Lotion As Frizz Control
If you’re not sure what brand of hair product you prefer, or are tight on money for a good one that you like, then try using hand lotion. It’s a great alternative for frizz control. Just make sure you don’t use a lot.

Adding Conditioner To Your Hair
This is for curly haired people, especially those of you that want your curls to be less poofy. After you shower, add a little conditioner to the ends. It’ll give your hair a soft, piece-y look. This will help weigh your curls done so that they don’t stick out as much.

Frozen Towels
Keeping a frozen towel in the freezer sounds weird, but this really works. I tried it so don’t be scared. Just put a frozen towel in the freezer so that it’s nice and cold, take in out in the morning or whenever you’re going out, and leave it on your head for about 10 to 15 seconds. Voila! Frizz is gone.

Everyone thinks that Wet2Dry straighteners really mean wet to dry. In truth, they don’t. Here’s why.

Just because new advancements in technology allow you to ‘straighten your hair while it’s wet’ doesn’t mean you should. Your hair can’t be full on wet, like I-just-got-out-of-the-shower wet, when you straighten your hair with any flat iron. Doing so will damage your hair. You’ll notice something is not right when the texture of your hair feels really brittle. Your hair will look fried beyond belief. Your hair must be at least 90% dry in order to use this straightener. Below are some of the comments people left me on Yahoo! Answers when asked about Wet2Dry straighteners.

I have a CHI and a Wet2Dry straightener by Conair. When im out of town or at a friends im not supposed to bring the CHI cause my Mom uses it. The Wet2Dry are easy to use and makes the time so by faster because you dont have to blowdry. Just make sure your hair is just a little DAMP. – CheerLover101

i personally have not had good luck with the wet2dry ones it may just be my hair texture but they jus ont seem to work – dead_at_dawn

My first wet2dry killed my hair. and it got a little rusty. but my sister got a new version and it works alot better. Its helpful because my hair doesn’t have to be perfectly dry to straighten it. – JellyBeanBabe

Yeah I used my friends once and let me say only once because it absolutely FRIED my hair. When I tried to straighten my damp hair, it came out frizzy and split-ended and awful. Don’t waste your money. It took like five bottles of moisturizing shampoo to get my hair back to normal. – Love Stinks,,,perfume wont help

The opinions for Wet2Dry straighteners are just about even when it comes to negative and positive experiences. Be extremely cautious when choosing a Wet2Dry flat iron. Don’t forget to use heat protection spray!

I decided to go on Yahoo! Answers and ask which straightener they preferred. Ten people responded and here’s what they think.

CHI Straighteners

Five out of ten people voted the CHI as their preferred straighteners.

i really like the CHI a lot.
before i use it i spray ion hair protecter, and it keeps my hair straight the whole day, plus keeps my hair protected! :] – Maddie H

I prefer my CHI over any other hair straightner I’ve used. And I’ve used A LOT of them… ahaha – I won’t be a Victim♥

CHi!!!!! – Aleah B

CHi is the best – XxxXxxX

chi ;]] fer sureee – jasonlover_jasonluu

I did a review on the chi a while back. You can read my opinion on this straightener here, CHI Straightener Review

GHD Straightener

Three out of ten people voted the GHD as their preferred straighteners.

GHD……I wouldn’t use anything sold at Walmart or Target on my hair!!
- HiPcHiCk♥

I personally prefare GHD’s as all the other straightners i use make my hair frizz and pull some of the hairs out of my head where as GHD’s seem to do the trick well and don’t hurt at all – Katie

GHDs!!!! – Leila S

Sedu Straighteners

Store-Brand Straighteners

These are straighteners such as Remmington, Conair, etc. They’re straighteners that you can buy at a Wal-Mart, a Target, or any other store related. One person out of ten voted these as their preferred straightener.

i have a pink Lena one that i got fer $30 at Ulta
and it’s awesome, it works really well and it’s PINK! – jane k

Things ended up getting busier than I had thought. But I’ll give you a quick, interesting update about this past week for me.

I’m having technical difficulties with my webcam and my computer in general. I’m hoping to fix that real soon. I’m sorry for the delays on my videos. I’ll get them posted as soon as possible. Forgive me!

So Wednesday, June 11, was my brother’s graduation. Sadly, I cried. That’s something you would expect from a parent, right? Well that definitely didn’t happen. Before my brother even started walking, I started crying. I was bawling, busting out in tears. I must say, it felt pretty good. Seeing my brother walk was touching. Once again, I started crying. Also, my loving boyfriend was walking as well. So there I was, screaming and hollering for my two main men. Haha! A pretty cheesy line don’t you think?

Anyways, my dad was in town and we hadn’t exactly gotten my brother a graduation gift. The family and his girlfriend decided to trick him into thinking we were going to Costco when we were really heading for the car dealership. Long story short, my parents got him a Scion tC. Here’s the better part.. I GOT ONE TOO!
I’m going to go ahead and assume that I’m not getting a graduation present. Haha! It’s okay though. I’m happy with my Scion. I love it! I’ve been driving around like mad crazy [Well, not literally]. I love waking up, opening the garage, and BAM! There’s my car.

For the last three days I’ve been spending time with my dad, who left to head back to California yesterday. So there’s my update on how my week has been going. Hope you enjoyed it. Don’t forget to check out my other posts! Please and thank you!

There are no ‘miracle products’ that help your hair grow. It’s really all about being natural, from my experience. I’ll give you a few tips that I did to grow out my hair.

Growing out hair

This may be extremely hard for people whose best friends are flat irons, curling irons, and hair dye. Here’s what I do when I want my hair to grow out faster and healthier:

Letting your hair do its natural thing
This means no heat, no hair products. Like I said, this will be very hard if your best friend is a straightener or a curling iron. Heat can damage hair badly. It may lead to dry, brittle hair if you don’t take care of your hair properly when using hot tools. If you’re not going out, let your hair air dry. Products can also cause hair growth to slow down. Hair products may be too strong for a certain hair type and cause it to fall out.

Deep conditioning
Garnier Fructis Fortifying Deep Conditioner is my favorite product for deep conditioning treatments. You can get this treatment at any salon for about 20 dollars. I would prefer to save money. Therefore, I choose to deep condition on my own. It’s a cream that you apply to your hair as you would any other conditioner. Clip up your hair if it’s in your way and put a shower cap over it to retain heat. I do this about every Saturday to restore the moisture that I lose from straightening my hair on a daily basis.

Brushing techniques
Brushing your hair harshly can cause breakage. The same goes for brushing too much. Start by brushing out the tangles from the bottom and working your way to the top. I prefer using a wide tooth comb with a fine tooth comb on the other side.

Using a different shampoo and/or conditioner
I personally use Sunsilk Hydra TLC shampoo and conditioner. It works wonders for me. I noticed a big difference the first time I used it. I recommend it to anybody that asks about a good hair cleanser. I do a review on it so check it out if you haven’t already.

Hair ties and hair bands
This is for people that like to tie their hair up. Try using hair ties and hair bands that don’t have elastic or metal parts in them. The elastic is too harsh on your hair and the metal can catch on your hair causing breakage. As an alternative, try using a fuzzy pipe cleaner. Yes, it sounds funny, but it really works.
